What’s a VLE?

March 3rd, 2004 · No Comments

In quest for tools to automate my website, I've been looking into course management software. Found quite a few interesting ones, but most are aimed toward colleges and universities. So a few new terms for those of us new to this area of technology.

A VLE is a virtual learning environment. An MLE is a managed learning environment. What they do is provide a portal for students taking classes. They have the ability to doll out coursework, provide a mechanism for all the students to interract and a way for the student to communicate with the instructor.

So why should anyone care? This is the wave of the future for education. If your child's school has a website its likely it has features that enable them to get homework, ask questions, post information. I'm not just talking about colleges and universities, most primary and secondary schools have this capability.

Here's an interesting article and a couple of links for interested parties. Watch for my VLE for practicing professionals.
