As bloggers, we usually write because we believe in something strongly enough to voice our opinions. But we aren't the typical person on the street. Ask around. What do those around you truly believe in.
If you ask this question of your friends, your co-workers, your customers, your liable to be surpised that most people don't know what they believe in. That's been shown quite effectively during voting season by a low turn out.
Edward R. Murrow, during the 1950's invited different types of people, celebrities, politicians and non-notables alike to participate. He asked them to voice their belief systems.
NPR, Atlantic Public Media and This I Believe, Inc. are partnering to re-create the project with host Jay Allison. I'm a strong believer in a personal value system, a mission statement for me to guide myself with over my lifetime. You can read about the project, even submit an essay to the site. Or, you can write your own personal mission statement, post it. What do you believe in?
