Back in the early days of Apple, I was addicted to the text-speech moose. Anything that was on screen, I could have him read the contents to me.
Wouldn't it be great if I could have an audio file created of the webpages I wanted info on - converted to an mp3 file and I could download it to my iPod. Sort of RSS-audio. Hmm. First, check out the availability of existing text-to-speech software.
I'm a firefox and thunderbird user. So, I pop in to checkout the available extensions. I spot FoxyVoice. Download it, install it. Open up a website, right mouse click and read the text. All I can say, I hope my eyes never go completely. Although it does a great job, no errors whatsoever on regurgitating the content - us website designers need to use this as an additional browser test.
Listen to the websites you've designed. Your pictures don't mean a lot to a blind reader. Your beautiful menu is being ignored. That flash you've spent months on - doesn't mean a thing in this world.
My eyes are opened a bit, listen to your website.
