Two years ago my area - San Diego - experienced its own disaster with the fires that swept through our county. Several people lost their lives, many lost their homes.
This pales in comparison to what Katrina swept in with. It isn't time to point fingers, though many will. The president, FEMA, the mayor of New Orleans. All with fingers pointed at them. Its time to heal those who suffered, bury those who lost their lives, help people get their lives back on track. The finger pointing can come later.
There are some bright spots. A twenty year old, Jabbar Gibson, commandeered a school bus and drove people to the Houston Astrodome.
Alexandria (EzineQueen.com) was slammed for telling how much she gave to the relief effort. Gimme a break, she gave money, she said how much she gave. Oprah had a two day show about the time and effort she's putting out. Do you honestly think that CNN, ABC, CBS and everyone else on tv or the internet is putting on coverage because of the plight of their fellow man? Ali, I say tick of your detractors even more - give another thousand.
Remember the Christmas song. If you haven't got a penny, a ha' penny will do, if you haven't got a ha' penny, then god bless you. If you can't give money, give from your pantry, buy some extra stuff at the store. We can all do something.
Who cares if the storm survivors get money, debit cards, health care, housing, welfare or anything else. Everyone stop whining and help.
