Blogging for Search Engine Placement II

June 24th, 2003 · No Comments

How many sites are linking to your site or your blog site? If you're blogging you should be getting as much exposure as you can. Remember the keys to getting into the search engines:

1. Get as many websites linked to yours as you can.

Never stop this process. Schedule time to scour for new sites. If you are reading other people's blogs, take a look at the tools they're using. Who is linking to them?

2. Make sure you have your keywords on your home page

Just because its a blog doesn't mean you get to skip this step. Pick a small set of keywords and a description for your blog just as carefully as you did your regular website.

3. Give each post a valid title

Maintain a list of topics. Your entry should be titled with something like topic - subject. What I've used in this entry is Website Link Strategies - Blogging for Search Engine Placement II. A bit long, but quite descriptive. When people look at my list of postings they can see the ones that are related. They can do a search on my blog to get all the entries with the same topic.

3. Post interesting and frequent content

Make lists of interesting topics. Subscribe to Blogfodder.com for ideas. Post as frequently as you can. Set up a time of day that you find comfortable and plan it into your day. Aim for a goal. If you write for 30 days on a particular subject, you can gather it together and make an ebook or a class out of it.

4. Write what you find interesting and they will come

You are establishing a community. The community starts with you, but there are many other people interested in the same things you are. Write about topics you want to learn about, other people want to learn right along with you.
